All,
If you’re a subscriber here, you’ll be familiar with our work. The goal of this State Assessment Substack is provide up-to-date information on state summative assessments that students complete each spring. We document academic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic and, perhaps more importantly, provide access to cleaned versions of these state assessment microdata through our website.
The data have been used by journalists, academics, and those who work in the field of education more broadly. Over the last eight months, we have been providing consulting services and early access to the data to, among others, the U.S. Department of Education. This is all part of our core mission to make these data as accessible as possible to stakeholders.
We are writing today to ask for your support, if you are able and if the data has been helpful to you. We have been generously funded by the Walton Foundation, and are so grateful for their ongoing support. However, we were in the final stages of contracting with the Department of Education for past and ongoing work, and that contract has been cancelled.
In short: if you are in a position to donate to this project, and if you have benefited from it, please consider doing so at the link below. We are very grateful.
(Please note: the donation link uses our new name, the Education Data Center).
Thank you,
Emily
I’m sorry to hear this. I shared this post across social media, and hope others will do the same.
