Trends Over Time
In mid-November, the Alabama State Department of Education released the 2025 school report card results, including outcomes on the state summative assessment for students in grades 3-8, the ACAP (some ACAP information was released earlier this fall as well). In 2021, the state established a new baseline for the ELA and math assessment with the first administration of the ACAP assessment. In Spring 2023, Alabama again updated the ELA cut scores. Given these changes, we are unable to compare the state’s progress to pre-pandemic results, but we include outcomes over time in the figure below to provide some context for general trends.
Overall, in 2025:
ELA: Approximately 59.8% of students in grades 3-8 reached proficiency in 2025, rising above 56% in 2024.
Math: Approximately 34.9% of students reached proficiency in 2025, above 32.4% in 2024.
