2026 State Test Score Results Data Series
The 2026 State Test Score Results Data Series is published by the Education Data Center and is designed to provide updates on 2026 state assessment data.
Our goal is to provide high-level insights on ELA and math state summative assessment outcomes for students in grades 3-8. We will publish overviews as State Education Agencies (SEAs) publicly release assessment results and/or as we receive aggregate results via public records requests.
For additional information about each state assessment, please see the end of this post. All available 2026 assessment data used for this data series will be published by the EDC in December.

Trends Over Time
Yesterday (July 6), Louisiana released the 2026 LEAP results for students in grades 3-8. Louisiana has administered LEAP on a consistent scale for many years, allowing proficiency to be compared over time. Results are reported across five achievement levels - Unsatisfactory, Approaching Basic, Basic, Mastery, and Advanced - with students scoring Mastery or above (Mastery+) considered proficient.
In Louisiana, 2026 proficiency rates for students taking the grade 3-8 LEAP assessment show continued gains in math and flat performance in ELA compared to 2025.
ELA: Approximately 43% of students in grades 3-8 reached proficiency (Mastery or above) on the LEAP assessment in 2026, unchanged from 2025 and holding at 43% for a third consecutive year. Grade 6 led growth between 2025 and 2026, rising from ~40% to 43% Mastery+, while Grades 3 and 8 dipped 1 percentage point.
Math: Approximately 34% of students reached proficiency on the grade 3-8 assessments in 2026, up from 33% in 2025 and continuing to climb since 2021. All grades either remained unchanged (Grades 3, 5), or demonstrated growth this year compared to 2025.
