2026 State Test Score Results Data Series
The 2026 State Test Score Results Data Series is published by the Education Data Center and is designed to provide updates on 2026 state assessment data.
What to expect: Our goal is to provide high-level insights on ELA and math state summative assessment outcomes for students in grades 3-8. We will publish overviews as State Education Agencies (SEAs) publicly release assessment results and/or as we receive aggregate results via public records requests.
For additional information about each state assessment, please see the end of this post. All available 2026 assessment data used for this data series will be published by the EDC in December.

Trends Over Time
This month, the Oklahoma State Department of Education released the 2026 ELA and math results for students in grades 3-8 as part of the Oklahoma State Testing Program (OSTP). Overall, proficiency rates remain very similar to the most recent few years of (comparable) assessment data.
ELA: Approximately 23.7% of students reached proficiency in 2026, down slightly from 24.3% in 2025. About 40% of all students scored at Level 1 on the assessment. Proficiency in Grades 5-7 remained stable, while Grades 3, 4, and 8 dipped. However, the proficiency rate is just slightly below the 2021 ELA proficiency rate of 23.9%.
Math: Approximately 26.7% of students reached proficiency in 2026, similar to 26.4% in 2025. Grades 6-8 each showed some small gains. Overall, math achievement scores have been making small steps forward each year, but they have yet to reach the state’s 2019 proficiency rate of 33.1%.
A note about 2024: When the state released assessment results in 2024, proficiency results had changed dramatically from reported results in 2023 and prior years due to changes in cut scores (which reflect how the state defines each proficiency level). However, miscommunication about the changes sparked concerns, and the state re-instated the prior test scores in 2025. As the state explains, this decision was made at least in part “to close the ‘honesty gap’ created by the 2024 cut scores, which made scores appear higher without reflecting true readiness,” and that “because the same cut scores were used in both 2023 and 2025, scores can be directly compared.” Therefore, in the figures below, we include the 2024 results for reference only, as this reflects a different assessment.
Note that student subgroup results for 2026 are not available at this time. Therefore, we focus here on overall results for all students at the state- and district-level, but cannot provide more detailed student subgroup results.
