Updates from the Education Data Center - new home, new map, new tools

A fresh look at the Education Data Center - a new home at eddatacenter.org, plus new tools to dig into grade 3-8 results in your state and district.

At the Education Data Center, we’ve been busy behind the scenes and we are excited to share an update:

We’ve moved to a new home at eddatacenter.org!

We have the same mission - to make state assessment data clear, timely, and free - but now you will find even more ways to dig into the Grade 3-8 ELA and math results. Below are some of the new features that we hope you’ll try out.

You can now explore your state, district, and school results more easily on an interactive map.

One of the features we’re most excited about is a new interactive map that lets you dig into proficiency by state and district. Click on a state to see how its districts compare, follow performance over time, and zoom all the way in to a single district’s ELA and math results. It’s the fastest way we know to go from “how are students doing?” to an answer you can actually see - no spreadsheets required. For each state, filter by school year, subject, and grade level. Below is an example for Texas, 2025, math, grade 8:

From there, you can click on a district of interest and dig into the results - below is an example for Austin ISD, where you can see school-level results mapped onto district boundaries, and similarly filter by subject and grade level. Here are results for Austin ISD, 2025, ELA, grade 3:

Our AI assistant, Zelma, has improved!

Not sure where to start? Ask Zelma the way you’d ask a friend - how are results in my district? Zelma will now ask you to clarify what subjects or school years you mean so that you see the results you truly want - see below for an example of scores in Steubenville, Ohio, where you can also toggle a state-level comparison on or off, or remove subjects.

Data files are still in one place, still easy to access

The State Assessment Data Repository is still the heart of it all: standardized grade 3-8 ELA and math results across all 50 states, free to explore and download. We’ve added more resources to help get you the information you need for your research: new ways to understand our methodology, data availability, and release-calendar pages, so it’s easier to see what we have and when new data lands (take a look to see what we have in store for 2027!).
